Title:

Astronomy is a cruel mistress: A salutary lesson from history – Steve Ringwood

Synopsis:

A fascinating story of determined perseverance in the face of adversity during the Age of Enlightenment.

Biography:

Steve is a long-time active amateur astronomer and current Chairman of the Loughton Astronomical Society (Essex). He has a particular interest in practical observational astronomy and a deep fondness for its funnier side. He is the author of Astronomers Anonymous (Springer, 2010), a light-hearted but useful overview of the common questions and problems facing practical amateur astronomers, and he regularly contributes in-depth reviews of astronomical equipment and accessories and writes the ‘Astrogear’ column announcing new products for the monthly magazine Astronomy Now.
